
On 25 April 2013, the Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis” – Skopje and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), held a conference on the topic of “Elections and Political Parties: Local Elections in the Republic of Macedonia 2013 – review and recommendations.” The conference was opened by Anja Chimek, an official KAS representative in Macedonia, while Ilina Mangova from the Institute for Democracy presented the second and reviewed issue “The Local Elections Handbook in the Republic of Macedonia 2013”. The handbook gives information on the electoral system, the political parties and the coalitions participating on the elections, including a list of all mayor candidates and a more detailed presentation of the candidates in 29 municipalities. This reviewed issue contains a report on the electoral campaign, the election results, summarizing the assessment of the elections and giving a review of the elected mayors, as well as the number of the party councilors on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
Ralf Breth, the Ambassador of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Macedonia, Zlatko Dimitrioski from the Civil Organization MOST, PhD. Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova from the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus I” – Skopje, also gave speeches on the conference.
The latest issue of “Political Thought” titled “Elections and Political Parties”, dealing with topics referring to political leadership, civil disobedience, electoral boycott, civil values, women and politics, clientelism, electoral engineering etc., was also presented on the conference.
