The project’s overarching goal is to contribute to the reform process in North Macedonia by strengthening the Parliament’s role in combating corruption and shaping rule of law reforms.
With the forthcoming parliamentary elections in 2024, the project intends to work closely with political parties and members of parliament to embed fact-based discourse within the political dialogue and stimulate discussions around comprehensive and effective anti-corruption commitments. To achieve these objectives, the project will streamline anti-corruption recommendations into political parties’ election programs, conduct advocacy sessions with political parties to incorporate robust anti-corruption commitments into their manifestos, build the anti-corruption capacities of the new leadership generation through training sessions, and engage in pre-election podcast conversations with political parties to scrutinize their proposed anti-corruption measures.
By facilitating policy dialogues among political parties, their youth organizations, parliament members, and civil society, the project aims to accomplish three specific objectives:
- Enhancing the anti-corruption commitments of political parties within their electoral agendas, laying the foundation for evidence-based reforms and fostering broader consensus on the necessary priorities and actions to combat corruption effectively.
- Strengthening the capacities of the Parliament of North Macedonia, particularly its members, to actively engage in oversight and contribute significantly to evaluating and formulating the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
- Mobilizing public support for specific evidence-based anti-corruption commitments, exerting pressure on politicians and officials to implement comprehensive policies and measures. This objective is critical in decreasing political parties’ negative potential role in anti-corruption and identifying and supporting champions.
