NATIONAL COMPENDIUM ON SOLIDARITY – OPEN CALL FOR ESSAYS/ARTICLES

The Institute for Democracy ‘Societas Civilis’ – Skopje (IDSCS) on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) country office in Skopje, North Macedonia announces an open call for essays/articles.

GOAL OF THE COMPENDIUM / PUBLICATION:

to bring together authors and their written contributions [in the form of essays/articles] for a UNDP publication thematically adjacent with the importance of solidarity in development work.

THEME OF THE COMPENDIUM / PUBLICATION:

The importance of solidarity for development and societal resilience.

TOPICS ON WHICH WE ARE SOLICITING ARTICLES/ESSYAS:

  1. 60th anniversary of the Skopje earthquake, the city of international solidarity
  2. The power of women solidarity in development
  3. Economic/ Democratic solidarity and its role in development
  4. The climate crisis and the role solidarity can play in mitigating and adapting to the challenges in North Macedonia
  5. Diaspora and solidarity

 

OUTLOOK OF THE COMPENDIUM:

  • The final publication/compendium should have two essays/articles on each of the five topics, and two essays for the students track
  • Each essay/article should be no longer than 3,000 words
  • All essays/articles should be written in English
  • Authors are free to use both original and existing data in preparing their papers
  • All authors should use Harvard style of referencing (https://www.mendeley.com/guides/harvard-citation-guide/)

 

STUDENTS TRACK:

For University students that would like to take part in this publication, they can either propose an abstract on one of the 5 topics for the publication, or on the topics of:

  • The power of solidarity in tackling the challenges youth have in North Macedonia
  • Solidarity and volunteer work

All the other criteria outlined in this open call are the same for the students interested in applying to this call. Selected contributions from the students’ track will also be featured in the UNDP published compendium.

PROCESS:

All interested authors should submit an abstract, no longer than 300 words, to contact@idscs.org.mk no later than 6th of April 2023, outlining their idea, one of the 5 topics under which they would like to make their contribution, as well as 5 keywords that summarize the core idea behind their essay/article. The authors should also include their short biography as an accompanying document. Texts that are coauthored are eligible for acceptance as well. If an author is selected for this national compendium, they will have to submit the full final version of their text, no later than the 24th of April 2023.

The financial compensation for the selected texts, is 150 US dollars, subject to personal income tax deduction.

PUBLICATION AND PROMOTION:

The selected authors and texts will be published in a UNDP national study in the beginning of May 2023, and the publication will be showcased at an international event taking place in Skopje.
