On 9 April 2021, the Institute for Democracy in partnership with Stanford University organised a case study lecture on the topic of “Qualms with Quayside: Public Engagement in the Toronto Smart City Project” for LAD Balkan Alumni. The case study lecture was delivered to the LAD Alumni who were participants in the Academies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro.

Professors Francis Fukuyama and Michael Bennon addressed this first alumni reunion event, as part of the Leadership Academy for Development for Western Balkans series. IDSCS and Stanford University will organise two more events for the LAD Balkan Alumni network in the upcoming months, followed by the LAD academy in North Macedonia which is expected to be held this summer.

These activities are part of the “Fourth Regional Leadership Academy for Development for the Western Balkan” supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the German Marshall Fund of the U.S.
