The collection Conflict of Interests and Corruption at a Local Level contains total of 15 studies prepared within 15 research and monitoring projects, conducted in the period July-October 2014 on the territory of Republic of Macedonia. The projects were conducted and the reports were prepared by 15 civil organizations, working on the territory of the entire state.
The collection is part of the project “CSOs Watchdog Network to Prevent Spoils and Conflict of Interests in the Public Administration”, financially supported by the European Union and implemented by the Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis” Skopje (IDSCS), Ohrid Institute for Economic Strategies and International Affairs “Ohrid” (OI) and the Macedonian Institute for Media (MIM).
The general topic throughout all the studies is the issue of representation and prevention of the conflict of interests and corruption in the local public administration. Every paper in this collection takes the local level of governance as an analysis unit, whereby several specific topics and aspects connected to the field of interest are also represented.
The papers in this collection give an insight into a total of 30 local self-government units in Macedonia, making it especially significant for the interested parties. In addition, the studies are structured as public policy documents, offering practical recommendations for overcoming the identified drawbacks, which can be especially useful for the public-policy makers and the decision-makers both on local and international level.
The collection is divided into four themes: Public Procurement; Conflict of Interests and Corruption; Employment, Promotion, Mobility and Merit System; Transparency and Freedom of the Institutions, Possibilities for Civil Participation.
