In January 2015, the media informed on the content of the parliamentary debates, views and arguments expressed by MPs, at the highest level since the beginning of the monitoring. The key thing attracting the media attention were the parliamentary debates on the Law on High Education, the legal amendments providing insight into the bank accounts of social security users, the amendments to the Constitution, the travel costs of the MPs and the President’s visit of the Albanian Parliament Ilir Meta.
The news in which the Parliament is only mentioned, not essentially referring to the work of the MPs, for the first time since the beginning of the monitoring are less present.
In January, the media most often refer to the MPs as the main source of information. In addition, the information with sources of MPs from one political party (most often the majority) are far more present than the information equally representing MPs from the Government and the Opposition.
Sources coming from representatives of other state institutions, foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations, civil organizations and citizens are more present than the previous months.
These are part of the findings from the Fifth Monitoring Report on media reporting for the work of the Parliament conducted in the period from 1 to 31 January 2015.
The research contains published articles and TV reports from the following media: Dnevnik, Utrinski vesnik, Vecher, Sloboden pechat, Koha, Lajm, Sitel, Telma, Alsat-M and MR2 programme in Albanian language. The monitoring is part of the project “Parliament Watch, Strengthening the Political Debate and the Deliberative Discourse” financially supported by the European Union.
This is the word cloud of the most frequent words in the announcements of TV reports and newspaper titles on the published information, referring to the Parliament.
