The Parliament is mentioned in the media mostly in a context of broader political events, inter party relations and the political crisis in the country. The contents of the debates and arguments in the Parliament sessions is reported to a lesser extent. Therefore, the public is not completely informed about the events in the Parliament which relate to the topics on the agenda, laws and amendments as well as arguments put forward for and against proposals on the sessions.

These are parts of the findings of the First Report on how the media report the work of the Parliament in the period between 19th of June and 30th of September 2014 mk al en.

It is noticeable that, during this period, a larger part of the content published in 10 national media outlets uses members of Parliament from only one political option as sources in reports about the work of the Parliament. In most of these cases they consist of quotes and statements from MPs from the parties of the majority and to a lesser degree MPs from the opposition, including those which were elected but did not yet take their seat in the Parliament.

The newspapers published more information mentioning the Parliament compared to television channels. In general, the newspapers in Albanian language published more frequently about the Parliament, however the papers in Macedonian reported in more detail about the events in the sessions.

The research is working on content published in the following media outlets: Dnevnik, Utrinski vesnik, Vecher, Sloboden pechat, Koha, Lajm, Sitel, Telma, Alsat-M and MRT2 programme in Albanian language. This monitoring is part of the ‘Parliament watch. Strengthening political debate and deliberative discourse in the Republic of Macedonia Macedonia’ project financed by the European Union.
