The Institute for Democracy is currently working on a comparative study for effective local governance on the Western Balkans. The study examines the local self-governance in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia. The aim of this study is to locate the problems and challenges of the local Self-government units, when carrying out their responsibilities. This research will identify the best practices of servicing citizens’ needs at a local level and will recommend the most suitable models for increasing the transparency and effectiveness of the local powers. This study is made for the needs of the International Republican Institute.
